Whispy Woods is a large apple tree who appears as a recurring boss in the Kirby franchise. Whispy Woods makes his first appearance in Kirby's Dream Land, and he often appears as the first boss in a Kirby game.
In the main Kirby series, Whispy Woods's common attack is dropping apples from his branches, which damage Kirby on impact, although Kirby can inhale an apple and spit it into Whispy Woods' face to damage him. Whispy's secondary attacks, which varies between his appearances, include shooting puffs of air out of his mouth, shooting up pointed roots, and dropping spiked balls (known as Gordos in most Kirby games) out of his branches instead of apples. Neither of these attacks can be sucked up by Kirby. Because he is stationary in most games, Whispy is intended to be one of the easiest and first bosses to defeat.

Main series
Kirby's Dream Land
In Kirby's Dream Land, Whispy Woods, also formatted Wispy Woods[1] and alternatively named Larkspur Liar,[2][1] is the first boss, and is fought at the end of the first stage, Green Greens. In the final stage, Mt. Dedede, Whispy Woods and the three following bosses—Lololo and Lalala, Kaboola, and Kracko—later fought near the end of the game, along with all the other three bosses before King Dedede.
Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
In Kirby's Adventure and its remake, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Whispy Woods is the boss of the first world, Vegetable Valley, having the same attacks as before.
Kirby's Dream Land 2
In Kirby's Dream Land 2, Whispy Woods again appears as an early boss. In this game he starts using the attack where his roots can pop out from underground and hurt Kirby.
Kirby Super Star
In Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra, Whispy Woods returns as the first boss in the main game, Spring Breeze, which is a shortened remake of Kirby's Dream Land. Whispy Woods also appears as a boss in some of the other remakes. Twin Woods is a variation of the boss, and are basically two trees identical to Whispy that face each other, with Kirby having to battle both simultaneously.
Kirby's Dream Land 3
In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Whispy Woods has been possessed by Dark Matter. Whispy's moving roots will kick Kirby if he gets too close. After receiving enough damage, his face becomes menacing and he will start walking forward on his roots, becoming a scrolling boss; the fruit he drops takes on a rotten or bruised appearance.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
In Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Whispy Woods appears as a boss in the first world of Planet Popstar. He is surrounded by a round dirt path which is where Kirby can walk on. Kirby can't attack Whispy yet; he is defended by smaller walking tree stumps (called 'Whispy Jr.'). Whispy spits apples which must be spit at the Whispy Jrs. After they are defeated, Whispy gets angry and alternates between spitting puffs of air, shaking countless apples out of his leaves, and sticking his roots out of the ground; the roots are his weak point.
Kirby: Squeak Squad
In Kirby: Squeak Squad, Whispy Woods makes a small cameo appearance on the title screen, although much of his face is obscured by the game logo. Whispy Woods' appearance and the area that he is in looks the same as in Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land.
Spinoffs
Kirby's Pinball Land
In Kirby's Pinball Land, Wispy-Woods[3] is one of the three bosses, and also an owner of one of the game's three pinball tables. To defeat Whispy, Kirby must launch himself into the tree's nose several times. Whispy will drop spiked balls that freeze the pinball flippers (making them unmovable) temporarily.
Kirby's Dream Course
Whispy Woods is in one of Kirby's Dream Course's courses, serving as an obstacle.
Kirby Air Ride
In Kirby Air Ride, Whispy Woods can be seen in the city in the mode City Trial; however he is mainly just scenery, sitting among the trees in the forest section of the city. Constantly hitting him will make him show his "defeated" (crying) look.
Super Smash Bros. series
Super Smash Bros.
In Super Smash Bros., Whispy Woods appears in the Dream Land stage. He occasionally blows wind in a certain direction, sometimes sending fighters off the stage.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Whispy Woods returns in the background of the Dream Land, and also appears in the Green Greens stage. Like in Super Smash Bros., Whispy Woods attempts to blow fighters off the stage. The game introduces a unique ability for Whispy Woods in which he shakes himself violently and flings apples at characters. There is an obtainable trophy of Whispy Woods.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Whispy Woods returns in the background of the Green Greens stage, serving the same purpose as in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Whispy Woods returns on the Dream Land (64) DLC stage, having the same behavior as in Super Smash Bros.. In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, there is an obtainable trophy of Whispy Woods.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Whispy Woods reappears in both the Dream Land and Green Greens stages, acting as he did in previous Super Smash Bros. titles. He also appears as a spirit.
Appearances in other media
Club Nintendo comics
Whispy Woods makes a short appearance in the German-only Club Nintendo comic "Super Mario: Mario im Wunderland." Whispy Woods is the first creature Mario encounters in Wunderland when he accidentally gets there. Whispy Woods does not serve as an enemy but rather advises Mario to go to Crab, a wizard who can fulfill desires.
Kirby: Right Back at Ya!
In Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, Whispy Woods is featured as the king of the forest in Dream Land. Whispy is several hundred years old, and very wise, though he has a bit of a temper. He's very kind to his friends, but shows no mercy to those that threaten his kingdom. At first, he believes Kirby, Tiff, Tuff, and Tokkori are intruders when they build a campfire around him. It turns out to be a setup by King Dedede, who wants to destroy Whispy Woods and the forest to build his own private golf course. He almost succeeds, when most of the forest is cut down, but Kirby managed to save one of Whispy Woods' apples to restore the forest. King Dedede continues to constantly try to build his golf course throughout the anime while Whispy becomes Kirby's ally. Whispy Woods is voiced by Osamu Hosoi in the Japanese version and Dan Green in the English version.
