Super Smash Bros. Melee is a Nintendo GameCube game that is the second installment of the Super Smash Bros. series. The game was first released in 2001 in Japan and North America and then in 2002 in Europe and Australia. Like the first title, Super Smash Bros., the game was developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo.
Kirby returns from Super Smash Bros. as a playable character. The game introduces two Kirby stages, Fountain of Dreams and Green Greens, and Dream Land returns from the previous game as an unlockable "Past Stage." There are collectible items known as trophies, which are figurines of a Nintendo-related character or item, including Kirby ones. Kirby has the most trophies out of any fighter if his Copy Ability-related ones are taken into account.
