The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (abbreviated to SNES, Super NES, or Super Nintendo), known as the Super Famicom in Japan, is a video game console created by Nintendo. It was the successor to the original Nintendo Entertainment System, and its main competitor at the time was the Sega Genesis. The Super Famicom was released in Japan on November 21, 1990 while the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was released in America on August 23, 1991, in Europe in April 1992, and in Australia in July 1992. They were discontinued in 1999, followed by the Super Famicom model and the SNES/Super Famicom games which discontinued in 2003.

Some Kirby-related titles were released for the Super Nintendo late into its lifespan, the first being Kirby's Dream Course, which released in 1994. Of the Kirby games, two were only released in Japan (one being a collection of games for the Satellaview service) and another was only released in North America, Europe, and Australia.

The Super Nintendo also has a peripheral, the Super Game Boy, which allowed for Game Boy games (including the Kirby-related ones) to be played from it specifically so that the gameplay could be done from the television screen.
