Glunk is a green sea anemone-like enemy who appears in numerous Kirby games. It first appears in Kirby's Dream Land. Like many other aquatic enemies, Glunk does not yield any Copy Ability if swallowed by Kirby. Glunks are often encountered underwater, but some can be found outside of it as well. Glunks do not move around, and they often stick to a surface where they shoot out projectiles at Kirby.

History

Main series

Kirby's Dream Land

In Kirby's Dream Land, Glunks are only encountered at Castle Lololo in both the regular game and Extra Game. They attack by shooting out their projectiles horizontally. Glunks can hang upside down from a ceiling, and drop themselves directly below, where they reorient themselves

Kirby's Adventure / Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land

In Kirby's Adventure and its remake Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Glunks are a lot more common than in Kirby's Dream Land. Glunks most commonly appear in the level Orange Ocean, where they appear in most of the stages. Glunks now attack by shooting four projectiles out of their head at a time. Kirby cannot inhale these projectiles, but he can destroy them by using a Copy Ability move.

Kirby's Dream Land 2

In Kirby's Dream Land 2, Glunks are about as common as in Kirby's Adventure, and they even retain their behavior from the game.

Kirby Super Star / Kirby Super Star Ultra

In Kirby Super Star, Glunks are uncommon enemies who only appear in a few of the main games. Glunks are found underwater, and they attack Kirby by spitting a few spurts of water up at him in succession.

In Kirby Super Star Ultra, Glunks make an extra appearance in Revenge of the King's second stage, Illusion Islands.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Glunks were redesigned to have an orange body, but otherwise act the same as in earlier titles. They are mostly frequently encountered in Ripple Field.

Spinoffs

Kirby's Block Ball

In Kirby's Block Ball, a single Glunk appears in Stage 2-1, where it sits within some blocks. Like many enemies, Kirby can defeat the Glunk by touching it. In doing so, the Glunk quickly spits out three puffs as it flattens, and it drops a food item. Kirby earns 300 points for defeating the Glunk.

General information

Physical appearance

Glunk has a squishy body which is most often green in color, or a yellowish-green in earlier titles. It has a pair of large eyes and six red tentacles on top of its head. Since Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Glunk has dark green spots on its body. In Kirby Star Allies, Glunk's eyes were made bigger, and its body has been slimmed down.
